
| Bridge
Design: The Bridge Department is responsible for the designing, repairing, or contracting for construction drawings for new bridges or improvements to existing bridges. This department also maintains structures, culverts, pipes, and bridges on the county highways and some structures within incorporated areas.
The Construction Department is in charge of overseeing highway improvements. This department will also supervise the building or reconstruction of bridges performed by contract.
The Drainage Department is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 750 ditches under the direction and control of the Preble County Commission. The department is also responsible for the design, calculation of assessments and construction inspection of the county ditches petition by landowners.
Fleet Maintenance is responsible for maintaining all trucks, cars, rollers, graders, snow plows, backhoes, and other equipment in working order.
The Fiscal Department is responsible for purchasing, invoices, the accounting for the Engineers Office, contracts, preparing budget reports, and keeping track of material and equipment inventories.
Highway Design is responsible for planning, designing, and preparing construction drawings for new highways and improvements to existing highways.
The landfill, located in Gasper Township on US Rt. 127 between Eaton and Camden, is a 56 acre site where Preble County's refuse and yard waste is disposed. Construction at the site is currently progressing to meet the needs of Preble County residents as we enter the next millennium.
The Utilities Section, part of Highway Design, issues permits, supervises the construction in subdivisions, works with the utility companies in the right-of-way, and works with the county drainage.
The Human Resources Department is responsible for hiring of employees. This department is also responsible for safety coordination, payroll, and communicating new procedures to employees.
Planning & Programming is responsible for highway and bridge improvement projects, funding, and scheduling of these projects.
The Records Department maintains and manages road, bridge, and ditch records, aerial photos, surveys, field books, and plat books relating to the operations of the Preble County Engineers Office.
The Right-of-Way Department is responsible for the acquisition of land for new roads and bridges, and for the improvement of existing ones. It is the responsibility of this department to appraise the land and negotiate with the owners for a fair market price.
Road Maintenance has charge of maintaining the county highways. This department makes repairs and small improvements, removes snow and ice, mows and cleans the right-of-way, and does all the work related to keeping county highways in good traveling condition year-round.
The Surveying and GIS Department is responsible for surveying all county highways and land. This department also keeps track of all county monuments.
The Tax Map Department maintains the tax maps for the Preble County Auditor. This department approves the legal descriptions and surveys for property transfers in Preble County. This office is located on the second floor of the Preble County Courthouse.
The Traffic Department, in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation, establishes traffic regulations and controls, such as speed limits, traffic lights, traffic signs, and warning lights on the county highways. This department also does the centerline marking and striping for the highways. |
